The class 2068 is a shunting diesel locomotive of the ÖBB , which is mainly used at large train stations. Acute obsolescence and poorly performing shunting diesel locomotives led to the construction of the 2068, known as the "whisper locomotive", from the beginning of the 1990s.
history
In the mid-1980s, the ÖBB began to consider the design of new diesel locomotives for shunting service. A three-axle locomotive was ruled out immediately because of its uneven running characteristics in the speed range around 100 km / h. The solution was seen in a four-axle bogie locomotive: In 1989/90 the Jenbacher Werke received the order to deliver five such locomotives to the ÖBB, which were classified as 2068.001 to 005. In the years 1992 to 1994 55 more copies followed. The main series shows slight differences compared to the five prototypes.
The pre-series locomotives were adapted for refinery use on the OMV works railways in Schwechat due to the requirements for explosion protection in the TS plant in St. Pölten as follows:
- Execution of the following components in protection class IP 54: battery box, sandpit heating , electrical parts of the wheel flange lubrication , Indusimagnet , level sensor in the tank, heating of the condensate collecting container
- The gases produced when charging the battery are blown out via an exhaust duct to more than 90 cm above the SOK . The fans are designed as Ex .
- Installation of quick-acting flaps in the intake air connection
- Installation of spark filters in the exhaust port and Webasto device
- Relocation of the Webasto device to 90 cm above the SOK
The 2068 series is used in the shunting service at larger train stations, in front of local goods trains and to operate connecting railways.
Two machines were sold to the Hungarian RailCargoHungaria and used as the 409 series.
construction
The main load-bearing frame of the locomotive consists of two continuous box-shaped side members, several cross members and two buffer members. The two stems and the driver's cab are stored on the main frame. There are walkways around the stems that can be accessed via slider steps. The entire drive system and electronic equipment are located in the two stems. The driver's cab was developed according to ergonomic knowledge and is air-conditioned, four control panels are available to the driver. The main frame is supported by 4 × 3 Flexicoil springs, the bogies are made in a welded box construction. The power is transmitted via a deep pivot bearing. All locomotives were delivered in traffic red paint. The frame and the two "bibs" on the stems are gray-white, the roof and the bogies are painted traffic gray. In the case of new paintwork, the contrasting surface and the gray-white longitudinal stripes are dispensed with, the locomotives receive the current ÖBB emblem.
technical features
The ÖBB attached great importance to the fact that a low-noise engine of the type JW 608 DS is installed, this is located under the longer front end. Power is transmitted from the hydraulic traction motor to the axle drive via a turbo reversing gear. All control commands are monitored by a SIBAS-16 device. The locomotives have a wear-free hydrodynamic service brake, a compressed air brake and a spring-loaded brake. All locomotives have Sifa , Indusi and shunting radio and are tandem capable.
