The series 2066 of the ÖBB was a shunting diesel locomotive . The use of the single item was mainly limited to the rail network of the ÖBB main workshop in Floridsdorf .

history

After the end of the Second World War , some Austrian armaments factories had C-coupled Deutz factory locomotives . The remains of one of these locomotives with the number HF 25.901 remained in the main workshop in St. Pölten . For the time being, however, it was not reactivated because it was feared that a functional locomotive would be claimed by the Soviet occupying forces. Only after the state treaty was the machine extensively reconstructed, as only the frame, wheel sets and jackshaft were available. It was completed on June 1, 1955 and the locomotive was given the number 2066.01. After a brief deployment in the main workshop in Floridsdorf, it was used in the Jedlersdorf workshop from January 1956, where it was referred to as the 050 factory locomotive from January 1, 1957.

Cab of the 2066.001

After the commencement of rapid transit operations on January 17, 1962, it was decided to use the locomotive again in the HW Floridsdorf, as a locomotive with a high tractive force in the lower speed range was required to move the class 4030 railcars . As the number of shovels increased sharply in the following years and the compressed air brake was no longer sufficient due to the steep inclines of up to 18 per thousand, a wagon train brake was installed as part of a partial repair in 1971. In addition, the coal-fired underfloor furnace installed for preheating the cooling water was replaced by a Webasto heater. In 1973 an alternator was also installed.

From February 1, 1974, the locomotive was again designated as 2066.01 and was stationed in the north of Vienna. However, she only came there for refueling and deadline work - the shunting continued to take place in the main workshop in Floridsdorf. As part of a further partial repair, the locomotive lost its fir green (RAL 6009) paint and was given a blood orange paint (RAL 2002). In 1991 it was given its last paint variant based on the so-called Valousek design of the 1990s (traffic red RAL 3020, gray white RAL 9002 & umbra gray RAL 7020).

The locomotive was taken out of service on January 1st, 1994. Today it is owned by the “Club Blauer Blitz”. From July 2010 to June 2014 it was exhibited at the local train station in Mistelbach (culture and adventure station Mistelbach - Verein Neue Landesbahn). The 2066.01 was then transferred to the Strasshof Railway Museum , where it can currently be viewed.

A second locomotive, which only differs in details, was also built in the main workshop in St. Pölten and used there as a factory locomotive with the number 2166.01 .

Construction / technology

The locomotive has a diesel-electric drive. During the conversion it was fitted with an exchange diesel engine from a class 5041 railcar of the type SGP W8 / R8. In addition, an ELIN replacement generator from the 5042 series and a suitable drive motor of the type BBC GDTM 2374 were used. The locomotive has an inner frame. It is driven by a jackshaft and rods on the middle axis. All three axes are connected to one another via coupling rods.
