history

The 4030 series was built in the years 1956 to 1975 initially as a four-part train, later as a three-part train (railcar 4030, intermediate car 7030, control car 6030). From Innsbruck , the railcars also ran in two parts to Reutte in Tyrol . As part of the corridor traffic , they also passed German territory in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area. At the end of the 1950s, it was still very innovative (especially with regard to the chassis and interior), but due to the long procurement period it was no longer considered state of the art when the last examples were delivered. The last regional train services in the Selzthal area and in the area around Vienna took place until December 31, 2004. Since this date, the 4030 series has been considered to be retired.

The series 4020, which has been delivered since 1979, and push-pull trains are mostly in use as successors .

As a museum vehicle, the 4030.210 set was given the historical paintwork of the Viennese express train and is stored in the Schwechat Railway Museum. Some intermediate cars were used in tunnel rescue trains . The other vehicles were sold to private companies for scrapping.

Versions:

  • 4030.01–22 regional train version (at times also four-part) were later converted to 4030.301-322.
  • 4030.101–104 Forerunner of the rapid transit version 4030.2.
  • 4030.201–246 Express train version for Vienna with Scharfenberg coupler .
  • 4030.301–322 (see 4030.0) With automatic door locking system.

Areas of application

Sister series 4130

As a variant of the 4030 series, four units of the 4130 series were built in 1958 with two instead of one intermediate car and adaptations for long-distance traffic and used as the “ Transalpinexpress train between Vienna, Zurich and Basel .
