Depending on the location, vehicles from the former Pressburger Bahn are also part of the exhibition, as is the presentation of Austrian wagon construction history from the beginning to the interwar period. Some vehicles from the Vienna Technical Museum are also in cooperation , such as a copy of the first Austrian diesel express railcar series from the interwar period ( BBÖ VT 41.03 , later ÖBB 5041.03), a set of the first generation of vehicles for the Wiener Schnellbahn ( ÖBB 4030.210 ), the first Electric locomotive with single axle drive ( BBÖ 1170.14 later ÖBB 1045.14), but also some wagons (e.g. Simmeringer Waggonfabrik type N28). Also part of the exhibition concept are the presentation of the vehicles of the works and industrial railways in the Vienna area as well as narrow-gauge small railways of all kinds with a gauge of 600 mm, such as B. field, taxi (mine) railways etc. Furthermore, one would like to show the background of the railway operation (signal boxes, track construction technology, safety technology, devices and machines, etc.)

The restored standard gauge vehicles are mainly located in two historical and one newly built vehicle hall. A separate hall is available for narrow-gauge vehicles. There are also numerous unrestored vehicles on the open-air site. A separate (round) locomotive shed is planned for the steam locomotives on another section of the site.

Both on the 600 mm field track and in the standard gauge area, presentation drives take place on operating days from May 1st to October 26th. Rides, sometimes in the driver's cab, are offered to visitors. Steam locomotives are also demonstrated in operation on special steam operating days (usually every last Sunday of the month and at the beginning and end of the season).

Various special shows are put together for special occasions. An exhibition was dedicated to the Semmering Railway in 2005 and the Vienna Stadtbahn in 2006 , and in 2014 the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Pressburger Bahn .

The Schwechat Railway Museum is a cooperation partner of the Technisches Museum Wien (TMW). On the one hand, the museum undertakes reconstructions as an external restoration workshop and, on the other hand, shows TMW exhibits on loan. The museum has also been awarded the Museum Seal of Approval.

Location

The museum is located directly at the Schwechat train station of the ÖBB and is accessed by the S7 express train line. Schwechat station is the last stop (zone boundary) in core zone 100 (Vienna city area) of the Verkehrsverbund Ostregion (VOR) .
