Ecological forest use

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ecological forest use is the production of wood while preserving the forests as self-regulating ecosystems. To this end, Naturland started a campaign for ecological forest use in 1995 in cooperation with the environmental associations Greenpeace , BUND and Robin Wood . This campaign places high demands on forest companies so that they can be certified as organic forest companies .

conditions

Ecological forest use calls for the restoration or maintenance of near-natural forests, for example through natural forest regeneration and a ban on the application of genetically modified plants.

The quality of the ecosystem is to be preserved by avoiding deforestation and the use of pesticides and fertilizers. The forest floor is protected by dispensing with soil drainage, soil cultivation and extensive driving. The forest development and the wood harvest run gently. The natural biodiversity and forest dynamics are preserved. The ecological forest use is comprehensively and comprehensibly documented, both the management and the flow of goods .

In cooperation with Naturland and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the forest operations can be certified with both seals of approval through group certification.
