Ecological education center

The Münchner Volkshochschule (MVHS) and the Münchner Umwelt-Zentrum (MUZ) jointly operate the Ecological Education Center (ÖBZ) in the Munich suburb of Englschalking . The ÖBZ was opened here in July 2001 as an environmental education center. In cooperation with the Munich Adult Education Center and the MUZ, it deals with future issues and the environment .

House

The house of the ecological education center is located in a park-like facility in which there are ecologically designed areas. The house was built according to the latest ecological criteria and therefore uses very little energy.

Inside the rotunda there is a work room, a children's room and a seminar room for around 100 participants. A foyer area is used for exhibitions. A gallery on the 1st floor serves as a lounge. There are also exhibitions.

Open spaces

The park of the ecological education center is located on a former gravel and clay mining area, which was originally reserved for a route of the Tangente 5-Ost . Towards the end of the 1980s, however, this area was rededicated in order to use it for cultural purposes and for local recreation. As part of a public participation, the different areas of use were fixed in the development phase of the ÖBZ.

To this day, the ecological education center pursues this idea of "continuous citizen participation" in the green areas. This opens up the opportunity to contribute suggestions and ideas so that the open spaces can be adapted to the changed needs of the users. These changes are integrated into long-term planning.

location

The ÖBZ - Englschalkinger Strasse 166 (old address: Memeler Str. 40) - is located in the east of Munich not far from the Arabellapark . On Effnerplatz Englschalkinger branches road from the central ring off. Next to the house at Englschalkinger Str. 164 there is a footpath and cycle path leading to the ecological education center.

aims

The main goal of the ÖBZ is a sustainable development of Munich. Therefore, metropolitan issues form a focus in the educational program. The aim is to use concrete examples to make the connections between ecology , economy , social and cultural developments clear and to look at them from different perspectives.

Central subject areas of the ÖBZ are:

Target groups

With its events, the ÖBZ wants to address multipliers, senior citizens, families, children and young people. In addition to the range of content, this also results in a variety in methodology and didactics . The topics are conveyed in seminars, working groups, excursions, forums, workshops, projects and action days.

The central concern of the ÖBZ is the development of “key competencies” that enable the individual to form his own opinion on current topics and questions and to contribute to social developments. Important key competencies include the ability to analyze problems across disciplines, networked thinking and the ability to work in a team. That is why a lot in the Ecological Education Center revolves around civic engagement and opportunities for citizen participation, which is reflected both in more theoretical offers (e.g. "methods of participation") and in the communication of practical approaches.

An important aspect in the ÖBZ is how the topic of “sustainability” can be conveyed and integrated through new methodological and didactic approaches, for example through “art and creativity”.
