The Ploieşti Oil and Gas University ( Romanian: Universitatea Petrol-Gaze ​​din Ploieşti ) in Ploieşti ( Romania ) is one of almost 40 technical universities worldwide that specialize in oil and gas production .

It was founded in 1948, in 1973 there was a merger with the Bucharest Institute for Petroleum, Gas and Geology and received university status in 1992.

The university offers more than 25 Bachelor and Master programs as well as four doctoral programs. It has over 11,000 students and over 700 employees. Its graduates work in around 90 countries.

Faculties and research centers

There are five faculties:

  • Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Petroleum processing and petrochemicals
  • Economics
  • Humanities

In eleven research centers u. a. worked on the following topics:

  • Materials science
  • Reliability and technical security
  • Dynamics and service life of equipment
  • Automation
  • electronics
  • Hydrocarbon deposits
  • EU policy in the Black Sea region

The university has a didactic and distance learning center.
