Oil weir
Oil spill (especially from official sources and oil damage control is called) is a collective term for units of the fire service and private companies, whose duties involve managing operations with hazardous substances , in particular petroleum products on land and on water.

Oil brigades can be organized within the fire brigade or regionally, for example at the district level, whereby they are then composed of units from different fire brigades. There is a transnational oil weir for Lake Constance . Private companies act on behalf of the “lower water authorities” of the districts responsible for the oil rescue service.
In addition to the local security forces, the technical relief organization in Germany has 16 specialist groups for combating oil damage. They are intended to support the fire brigade's forces in major incidents involving mineral oils through special separation technology, collecting containers and cleaning equipment.
In the coastal area in particular, combating oil damage is coordinated by the Havariekommando in Cuxhaven (formerly the special agency of the Länder for marine pollution (SLM)). The equipment specially reserved for this purpose for combating oil, in particular the first-use containers, thick matter pumps, deep sea skimmers, oil fighting ships , etc. a. should be routed from there in the event of damage in the German high seas. The equipment is operated by the fire brigades, the technical relief organization and the building yards of the coastal protection agencies.

Common items of equipment used by the oil service both for fire services and for private companies on land and on water are, for example, the oil damage trailer , an emergency vehicle with an additional load of oil damage or the oil equipment vehicle . Large vacuum trucks are also used by private companies.
When working on bodies of water, oil barriers , wringers , skimmers , oil separators , grit and fleece are used. These devices and materials are partly stowed on special trailers or special ships.
