Austrian working group for systemic therapy and systemic studies

The Austrian Working Group for Systemic Therapy and Systemic Studies (ÖAS) was founded in 1986 - founded by Ludwig Reiter - from a merger of three institutes for systemic family therapy :

  • Institute for Family Counseling and Psychotherapy , Graz
  • Family and Counseling Association , Vienna
  • Systemic initiative , Salzburg

Originally, the ÖAS was intended as a discussion forum and initial spark for systemic studies, was to organize workshops and congresses and publish the journal systeme . Eventually, however, the three training institutes joined forces and set up a training commission in the ÖAS. In December 1993, the ÖAS was recognized by the Federal Ministry as a training facility for the subject matter . Since 2002 the journal systeme has been published together with the Systemische Gesellschaft in Berlin . Today the association offers curricula in Graz, Innsbruck , Salzburg and Vienna and represents the largest specialist institution - according to the number of graduates in a method - in Austria.

After Ludwig Reiter, four members in particular were able to distinguish themselves nationally: Joachim Hinsch took over (as Reiter's successor) the management of the renowned Vienna Institute for Marriage and Family Therapy . Gerda Mehta explored - together with Erik Zika - the area of the systemic border crossings . Corina Ahlers published a volume together with Ludwig Reiter in 1991 and Andrea Brandl-Nebehay became known for her standard work Systemic Family Therapy .

The systemic protagonists of several continents are regular guests at congresses and seminars of the ÖAS. The solution-focused approach has traditionally been strongly represented in the ÖAS.
