The Systemische Gesellschaft (SG) - German Association for Systemic Research, Therapy, Supervision and Consulting e. V. is an inter-professional trade association founded in 1993. The registered office of the recognized non-profit association is Berlin, where the office is also located.

The SG was founded as an umbrella organization of the systemic institutes in Germany to promote systemic (psycho-) therapy , counseling and research. The association currently represents 49 further education institutes, three of them in Austria and Switzerland, and almost 4000 natural persons as individual members and 27 honorary members (as of November 4, 2019). The SG maintains close cooperation with its sister association, the German Society for Systemic Therapy, Counseling and Family Therapy (DGSF) .

Together with the Austrian Working Group for Systemic Therapy and Systemic Studies (ÖAS), the SG publishes the specialist journal systeme and annually organizes scientific conferences on developments in the systemic scene. The first chairman of the SG was Arist von Schlippe . From 1995 to 2013 the psychiatrist and psychotherapist Cornelia Oestereich was the first chairwoman of the board. Ulrike Borst has been the first chairwoman of the board since April 2013 .

The establishment of binding training curricula and guidelines as well as the awarding of certificates for completed training is one of the most important quality developments at SG. The certificates of the Systemic Society, like those of the DGSF, are considered a quality criterion for systemic further education. The SG awards certificates in six areas:

  • Systemic Consultant (SG) and Lecturer for Systemic Consulting (SG)
  • Systemic therapist and teacher for systemic therapy (SG)
  • Systemic Supervisor (SG) and Lecturer for Systemic Supervision (SG)
  • Systemic coach (SG) and teacher for systemic coaching (SG)
  • Systemic child and adolescent therapist (SG)
  • Systemic Organizational Developer (SG)

The SG worked together with the DGSF for scientific recognition of systemic (psycho-) therapy. In 2008, both associations were successful with their application to the Scientific Advisory Board for Psychotherapy (WBP) . At the end of 2019, systemic therapy was included in the statutory health insurance services as a psychotherapy method for adults.
