Heinz J. Kersting

Heinz J. Kersting (born May 31, 1937 in Aachen ; † December 4, 2005 there ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian , social scientist and university lecturer . He gave essential impulses to the development of supervision as a method of applied social work in German-speaking countries, as well as its theoretical reflection against the background of constructivism and systems theory , especially systems theory (Luhmann) .

Life

Growing up in Aachen, Kersting studied philosophy in Frankfurt (1958–1960: Examen Philosophicum), then Catholic theology in Frankfurt (among others with Oswald von Nell-Breuning ), Bonn (among others with Joseph Ratzinger ) and Innsbruck (among others with Karl Rahner ) (1961 -1964: Bacc. Theol.). This was followed by training in Social Group Work / group work (1989-1970: Graduate in group work.) In supervision at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences North Rhine-Westphalia (KFH NW) (since 2008: Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia (KatHO)) ( with Louis Lowy ) (1971–1973: Dipl.-Supervisor (FH)), studied socio-linguistics , educational science and sociology at the RWTH Aachen and the PH Rheinland (1971–1976: doctorate in educational science with Horst Sitta and Lowy on the communication theory of the Palo Alto School , Paul Watzlawick and others) and further training to become a Balint group leader (1978–1988).

From 1970 Kersting worked as a university lecturer in Aachen (KFH-NW) and professor in Cologne (KFH-NW), from 1981 professor for methodology and didactics of leisure education, especially youth work, at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Mönchengladbach, from 1995 there (by rewriting his position) as professor for didactics and methodology of social work. In addition, from 1985 he was Scientific Director of the Institute for Consulting and Supervision (IBS), the Louis Lowy Institute, and Head of the Scientific Publishing House of the IBS, both in Aachen, and there in the management team of the IBS training courses for supervision , coaching and systemic Organizational advice . In addition, he was the head of the systemic project management department and academic companion of the intensive advanced training systemic working with groups .

With his book Communication System Group Supervision, according to Astrid Schreyögg , he initiated the “communicative turnaround” in the German-speaking supervision landscape in 1975 , which led to the development of systemic supervision and counseling concepts. He was co-founder and founding chairman (1989–1991) of the German Society for Supervision (DGSv) , later its honorary chairman.

From 1990 to around 2001, EU projects for the introduction of social work in Hungary followed, and since 1993 projects for the introduction of training courses in supervision and organizational consulting in northern Spain.

Heinz Kersting (IBS Aachen) and Diedrich Krüger (Diakonische Akademie Stuttgart) initiated the network of systemic institutes in the DGSv in 1993 , in which representatives of institutes and advanced training academies that conceived and carried out their supervision training as systemic training met regularly. This included the Remscheid Academy for Cultural Education e. V. , the Berlin Institute for Family Therapy (BIF) , the Society for Organizational Development, Training and Supervision (BTS) , Mannheim, the Diakonische Akademie and the Institute for Counseling and Supervision (IBS) , Aachen. The objectives were the professional exchange, the conception and implementation of cross-institute training courses, joint specialist conferences and book publications, as well as maintaining contacts with other specialist societies, e.g. B. Systemic Society (SG), German Society for Pastoral Psychology (DGfP). The network stopped its work in 2009 (cf. DGSv current issue 3, volume 2009, p. 12).

Since 2001 he was editor of the systemic internet journal Das gepfefferte Ferkel .
