German Society for Social Work

The German Society for Social Work e. V. (DGSA; until 2006: German Society for Social Work (DGS); nickname: Forum for Science and Practice ) is a scientific association for the promotion of the specialist science of social work . It sees itself as an academic society that takes care of issues relating to the discipline in research and teaching. The association is based in Frankfurt am Main , with its office in Sersheim .

The chairmen of the DGSA are Michaela Köttig and Barbara Thiessen. Board members are Wolfgang Antes, Stefan Borrmann , Sonja Kubisch, Dieter Röh , Christian Spatscheck and Claudia Steckelberg.

Former chairmen were Sabine Stövesand and Michaela Köttig, Herbert Effinger and Sabine Stövesand, Wolf-Rainer Wendt and Silvia Staub-Bernasconi and Hubert Oppl.

History and goals

The DGSA was founded in 1989 as a specialist society. The non-profit association aims to function as a specialist forum for content-related discussions and the differentiation of the sub-disciplines of social work. The DGSA would also like to promote the promotion of young academics and encourage lively scientific and publication activities. Anyone who deals with professional social work in the professional and academic field can become a member.

Cooperation with other specialist societies

The DGSA is closely networked with the Social Pedagogy Commission of the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE), the European Association of Schools of Social Work (EASSW) and the European Social Work Research Association (ESWRA). There are also working contacts with the social science counterpart to the DGSA in Sociology , the German Society for Sociology (DGS) and for academic psychology with the German Society for Psychology (DGPs).

Publications

The DGSA publishes a series of books called “Theory, Research and Practice of Social Work” by Barbara Budrich Verlag .

A newsletter appears twice a year and is sent to members in a combined edition with the electronic subscription to the journal “Social Work (DZI)”.

The specialist journal “Social Work (DZI)”, published by the DZI , has been the DGSA's periodic publication organ since 2016. Members receive an electronic subscription.

Until 2010, the periodic publication organ of the DGSA was the specialist journal "Blätter der Wohlfahrtspflege - German journal for social work", published by the Nomos publishing company .

Meetings and events

The DGSA initiates scientific symposiums, conferences, symposia and colloquia in its sections and specialist groups for the exchange of scientists and professionals as well as for the promotion of the discipline.

The DGSA is open to cooperation with other committees and professional associations and calls on other disciplines that also deal with questions of social work to jointly shape the future of the science of social work.
