Herbert Effinger

Herbert Effinger (* 1951 ) is a German social pedagogue and social work scientist. He is (as of 2011) chairman of the board of the German Society for Social Work (DSGA).

Effinger studied social pedagogy at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Bremen , where he received his doctorate in 1989 . He then worked in institutions for youth and adult education, including as an education officer at the Socialist Youth of Germany - Die Falken . Since 1995 he has been a professor for social work science and social education at the Evangelical University for Social Work in Dresden .

His work and research focus are: History and theory of social work ; Youth work and case management . He also researches and teaches on the following topics: communication, counseling and "humor in social work".
