from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term social economy describes that part of an economic system that is essentially concerned with services for the benefit of society . The focus is on social problems , especially in the provision of social services for and with people. The objective of the social economy is the direct production of individual and community welfare . Socio-economic activity thus has both economic and social aspects. This action , its organization and its functions are the subject of social economics .

classification

As part of the service sector , the social economy is located between the private sector ( markets with supply and demand) and the public sector ( state ). Common assignments are also third sector and non-profit sector . In Europe there is a different tradition of organized social economy (économie sociale, social economy) in the individual countries.

Viewed as an industry , the social economy represents a special area of economic value creation. The reason is that the economic services are largely refinanced by the state and the majority of the organizations are non - profit .

Forms of expression

The social economy comprises individual and collective forms of community, public, non-profit or commercially organized care. It can be organized by those affected themselves (e.g. as a cooperative) or provided for them by welfare organizations . As a rule, the social economy includes companies and organizations that provide social services in the social field, in child and youth welfare institutions , in institutions for the disabled, workshops for the disabled , outpatient and inpatient care services. Their job is to help and look after people in various ways who have special needs in their lives and to overcome problems. These services must increasingly take place in a “socio-economic” manner. Therefore, the offer of these services must increasingly take economic thinking into account in order not to use up the public budget. It is therefore necessary to use the resources made available more efficiently.
