Developed in the course of a Socrates project, part-time master's degree program " Social Economy and Social Work " (English. Social Work and Social Economy, SOWOSEC ) is a so-called " joint degree program involved" in a European network. It expands the subject matter of social work to include the additional perspective of the social economy.

Economization and / or professionalization

The introduction of economic approaches in social work or its organizations and institutions is discussed differently in theory and practice. On the one hand, the economization of social work is seen as a boost to professionalism and, on the other, as a risk. The basis of the course is therefore that the social economy training at the universities must consistently address the specifics of the subject of social work. The focus of the course is on the applicability and adaptability of the relevant specialist knowledge in the business-organizational area to social work or to organizations in the social sector.

Objectives

The main objective of the course is to impart skills in planning, designing, controlling and managing organizations and organizational units in the social sector. The relevant specialist knowledge in the areas of social economy , corporate governance and management in the national and international area in its relevance for organizations in the social area is the focus of the course.

A fundamental objective in terms of content is the ability to conduct empirical , scientific research as well as the development of new concepts and models for social work and social economy .

Another goal is to understand and reflect on European / international socio-political developments and their effects on social work and social economy in one's own country.

Joint Degree

A " Joint Degree Program " is understood to mean a regular course of study that is carried out jointly on the basis of "agreements between one or more Austrian providers of technical college courses and one or more foreign recognized post-secondary educational institutions, whereby these agreements must specify which services the relevant students at the participating institutions "(§ 3 Abs. 2 Z 10 FHStG )
