Austrian Society for Astronomy and Astrophysics

The Austrian Society for Astronomy and Astrophysics ( ÖGAA for short or also ÖGA² ) is an association of important Austrian astronomical institutions and individuals founded in 2002 , which aims to promote and disseminate astronomy and astrophysics in research , teaching and the public . Furthermore, the ÖGAA sees itself as the Austrian point of contact for society , politics , business and the mass media and coordinates common concerns of Austrian astronomers .

The ÖGAA has set up various working groups to pursue priority goals (promoting young talent, joining the ESO , fighting light pollution , dealing with pseudosciences ). The Public and Documentation working group has also organized the annual Austrian Astronomy Day since 2003 .

The ÖGAA is an affiliated organization of the European Astronomical Society and partner of the Astronomical Society . The ÖGAA thus also represents the interests of Austrian astronomy in a European context.
