Austrian Society for Meteorology

The Austrian Society for Meteorology (ÖGM) was founded in Vienna in 1865 . It is an association of meteorologists and people interested in meteorology on a voluntary basis. Its aim is to promote meteorology as a science and its relationship to problems of practical life.

Together with the German and Swiss Society for Meteorology, the ÖGM is the publisher of the scientific journal " Meteorologische Zeitschrift ". Your internal magazine, the ÖGM bulletin , appears twice a year.

Every two years, it organizes the Austrian Meteorologist Day in November. The 8th Meteorologist Day took place on November 7th and 8th, 2019 in Salzburg.

As part of the German Climate Conference, it awards the Eduard Brückner Prize “for outstanding interdisciplinary achievements in climate research”, named after the climatologist Eduard Brückner . Previous winners were Christian Pfister in 2000 , Ernst Maier-Reimer in 2003 and Roger Pielke jr in 2006 .

In 1999, the ÖGM was a founding member of the European Meteorological Society (EMS).
