The Austrian Tolkien Society (ÖTG), which deals with the life and work of the English author John Ronald Reuel (JRR) Tolkien , was registered as a non-profit association with its own statutes on September 20, 2002 in accordance with the Austrian Association Act. Analogous to Tolkien societies in other countries, e.g. B. the German Tolkien Society , the ÖTG pursues the goal of dissemination and scientific discussion of Tolkien's literature and also deals with the various implementations of his works. For this purpose, regional round tables and twice a year larger events, the Mereth Ethuil (spring festival) and the Lasse Lanta (autumn festival), take place once a month . In addition, the association magazine Halifirien appears three times a year in which relevant scientific essays but also humorous articles are published. The ÖTG maintains lively contacts with its neighboring Tolkien societies from Germany , Slovenia and Hungary .
