Öxnadalur
The Öxnadalur is a valley in northeast Iceland . It is located between Varmahlíð and Akureyri in the municipality of Hörgársveit .
geography
The approximately 30 km long, narrow valley is traversed by the Öxnadalsá river. It connects to the Öxnadalsheiði plateau . The most striking peak is the 1,075 m high Hraundrangi . The valley is located southeast of the Hörgárdalur .
history
A formerly independent municipality, Öxnadalshreppur, was named after the valley. Today it belongs to the Hörgársveit municipality.
The valley is connected to the poet Jónas Hallgrímsson , who spent his childhood on the Steinstaðir farm and in whose honor a grove was planted near the wooden Bakki church.
traffic
The ring road runs through the valley from the southwest towards Akureyri .
