The Hraundrangi (also Hraundrangar ) is a 1075 m high mountain in the north of Iceland, southwest of Akureyri .
geography
The Hraundrangi is located near the Hraun farm between the Hörgárdalur and the Öxnadalur , north of the lake Hraunsvatn . Drangafjall peak is nearby .
history
The mountain plays an important role the poem Ferðalok ( Engl. Journey's End ) from Jónas Hallgrímsson who is born in the courtyard Hraun and raised in the area of Hraundrangi.
The first ascent of Hraundrangi was made on August 5, 1956 by mountaineers Finnur Eyjólfsson, Sigurður Waage and Nicholas Clinch.
Say
The Hraundrangi was associated with Grettir the Strong , and therefore also called Grettisnúpa in Öxnadalur . According to legend, Grettir climbed the summit and, to prove this, left knives and belts there.
According to another legend, a gold pot should have been deposited on the summit.
