Ümit Kaftancıoğlu

Ümit Kaftancıoğlu (* 1935 in Koyunpınar , Hanak , Ardahan , Turkey ; † April 11, 1980 in Mecidiyeköy , Şişli , İstanbul , Turkey) was a Turkish journalist , writer and radio host .

He worked for TRT and he sometimes wrote in the Cumhuriyet newspaper and was shot, presumably for political reasons , during the unrest that preceded the military coup in Turkey in 1980 . In Izmir , a museum is dedicated to him and other journalists who were killed.

Forensic doctor and politician Canan Kaftancıoğlu is his daughter-in-law.
