Þykkvabæjarklaustur

Þykkvabæjarklaustur is a church in southern Iceland .

The place is west of the Kúðafljóts and east of the Mýrdalssandurs . A monastery was founded here in 1168 and was subordinate to the Skálholt diocese. The first abbot of the monastery was Þorlákur Þórhallsson , he was followed by another 19 abbots until the Reformation in the 16th century.

Þykkvabæjarklaustur should not be confused with Þykkvibær , which is around 120 km to the west.
