The class M 264.0 were four-axle railcars of the former Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD for main line traffic . They are the first four-axle larger-capacity motor vehicles from ČKD Prague and forerunners of the ČSD series M 275.0 as the development vehicle for the ČSD series M 274.0 ( blue arrow ). The mechanical part was very similar to the ČSD M 234.001 from Škoda , Pilsen .

production

Not all railcar designs of the time were technically mature solutions. On the part of procurement, priority was given to advantageous applications. The Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) expected these cars to have a long service life due to their robust construction.

The car bodies were manufactured at Ringhoffer immediately after that of the M 234.0 . In contrast to its predecessor, the M 264.0 was a pure steel construction. The car bodies of the two types only differed in small details.

In November 1932, the car body was ready and transferred to the ČKD workshop, where it was assembled until the end of 1932. The basis of the power transmission was an upright diesel engine from ČKD, which delivered an output of 300 hp at 800 rpm. Both axles of the rear bogie were powered. The traction motors, both of which had an output of 134.5 kW (540 V, 270 A) each, were designed as traction motors.

In February 1933 it was handed over to the ČSD.

commitment

They looked a bit cumbersome in use, but were easy to use. From 1939 to 1945 most of the motor vehicles were parked due to the fuel quota, but the M 264.0 was used in Slovakia.

After 1945, both cars are said to have been used as transport vehicles on works railways; later they were converted into assembly cars. So they served until the late 1990s. A car with the designation EL 8456017–1 201–9 was still unable to move in 2006 with the original bogies in Slovakia.
