The M 234.001 was a four-axle diesel multiple unit of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

history

Škoda in Plzeň began building railcars in the late 1920s, when ČSD needed modern, light and fast vehicles for local transport to operate its branch lines. In contrast to its competitor Tatra in Kopřivnice , Škoda manufactured vehicles with electrical power transmission, which the ČSD classified as M 230.1 and M 222.0 .

At the beginning of the 1930s, Škoda developed a four-axle railcar, which, with its top speed of 80 km / h, was intended for use on main lines. The ČSD classified the vehicle as M 234.001 in their inventory. The loner was then used on the Friedland – Bila local line (Místní dráha Frýdlant nad Ostravicí – Bílá; FBD). From 1934 the railcar was based in Ostrava .

Series production of the railcars no longer took place. From 1934 onwards, ČSD acquired more modern vehicles of a similar design with the M 274.0 series .

During the Second World War , the vehicle was part of the Protectorate Railways of Bohemia and Moravia (BMB-ČMD). After 1945 the M 234.001 belonged to the Praha Masarykovo nádraží depot . On November 30, 1949, the loner in Pečky was retired.

In the 1950s, the vehicle was converted into a non-powered measuring vehicle for the VÚKV traffic research institute . From 1973 the car was stationed at the Velim Railway Test Ring, where it was retired in 1985. Today the vehicle, which has meanwhile been badly damaged, belongs to the inventory of the Zlonice Railway Museum .
