history

The Velim Railway Test Ring was put into operation in 1963
The GP 200 bogie was a joint development with rail vehicle construction in the GDR

The history of today's VÚKV goes back to the design office of the former Ringhoffer wagon factory , which built rail vehicles in Prague from 1852. The establishment of an independent design office dates back to 1880. After the merger of all the well-known Czechoslovakian wagon factories to form Ringhoffer-Tatra AG in 1935, a central registration office (EVIKA) was created, in which the vehicle designs for all plants were centrally registered and processed.

After the nationalization of Ringhoffer-Tatra AG in 1946, EVIKA finally came to the Československé vagónky Tatra np company association as Výzkumný ústav kolejových vozidel Praha , which included all Czechoslovak wagon factories. In 1963, the test ring in Velim was put into operation, on which railway vehicles can be tested in real operation.

Since 1965 the company has been part of the Závody těžkého strojírenství np company association (heavy machinery manufacturing companies) in Martin . In 1970 VÚKV was incorporated into the Československé vagónky concern (Czechoslovak wagon factories). In 1983 VÚKV had branches in Cerhenice , Česká Lípa , Studénka , Poprad and Žilina .

After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, VÚKV became an independent joint-stock company that was founded on May 1, 1992 with its headquarters in Prague. After several changes of ownership, VÚKV has been part of Škoda Transportation since 1996 . Construction contracts are now also carried out for foreign customers. A development order from what was then ABB Henschel resulted in the modern low-floor Regio-Shuttle diesel multiple units , which are now being built by Stadler Rail in Berlin.
