The ČSD class S 479.1 was a four-axle electric test locomotive operated by the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) for the 25 kV AC system in the south and west of what was once Czechoslovakia . It served the manufacturer Škoda in Plzeň as a test vehicle for a special type of rectifier, the so-called ignitronic rectifier.
history
At the end of the 1950s, Škoda in Plzeň planned to supply locomotives for the then Council for Mutual Economic Assistance . Two test locomotives of the ČSD class S 479.0 were built . These had rectifiers made of quartz silica material. The BDŽ demanded so-called ignitrone rectifiers for their locomotives, as they were used in the SŽD F series . So two test locomotives were created with these designs.
It was later decided not to continue using this type of rectifier, so that the ČSD decommissioned the machines in 1966. The S 479.101 later served as a test vehicle for a thyristor control. In 1988 it was scrapped. The second locomotive, the E 479.102 , was scrapped around 1990.
technical features
Except for the rectifiers, the locomotives are almost identical to the S 479.0 series. The locomotives had a locomotive body with four entrances, as was used in the direct current locomotives of the series E 469.2 and the alternating current locomotives of the series S 499.02 .
