The vehicles of the ČSD series T 444.1 (from 1988: series 726 ) were diesel-hydraulic locomotives of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). They were developed as a further development of the ČSD series T 444.0 .

history

The locomotives were developed at ČKD in Prague . A prototype of this series was created in 1963 at the same time as the first locomotive of the T 679.0 series. The series locomotives were produced at Turčianske strojarne, np in Martin from 1965 to 1967 to replace steam operation on the branch lines and in heavy shunting. A total of 101 machines were manufactured for ČSD. 172 machines went to industrial companies. The main reason for the production of the locomotives were production costs that were reduced by 60% compared to the T 435.0 series .

These machines also received the nickname “Karkulka” (Little Red Riding Hood), although their paintwork was a lighter red color than the T 444.0. A variant of this locomotive with ballast instead of a boiler was later delivered as the T 444.02 series.

The locomotives have proven themselves over many years. In 1988 they were given the new series number 726. Later, due to the continuous decline in freight traffic on the branch lines and the use of railcars, their services could be dispensed with more and more.

In 2000 their scheduled use ended. A number of locomotives, such as the 726.082 in Bratislava-Vychod, have been preserved in the various depots of both railway administrations.

technical features

The locomotives were powered by the charged engine K 12 V 170 DR and the hydrodynamic transmission H 650 Lr from ČKD. By retrofitting a PG 500 steam boiler for heating the car, the fuel tank had to be reduced from 4000 l to 1500 l in order to preserve the space for the boiler feed water.
