The vehicles of the ČSD series T 448.0 (from 1988: series 740 ) are diesel locomotives for shunting and light line service on industrial railways , which were developed by ČKD in Prague. The locomotives were built especially for industrial companies in Czechoslovakia and Poland . A conceptually identical but lighter locomotive as the T 466.2 series was delivered to the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) .
history
In the 1970s, the ČSD had a great need for high-performance freight locomotives for heavy shunting and local freight train service.
From 1973 to 1989 the locomotive was produced in 13 series with a total of 620 pieces. The machines were manufactured for Czechoslovak industrial companies. 160 machines were also delivered to Poland as the T 448p series to companies in the coal, metallurgical and chemical industries. During the long production time there were several small design changes.
The T 448.0 series was the development vehicle for the T 466.2 .
commitment
The locomotives are considered to be robust and reliable machines and are still an indispensable part of their traditional areas of application. Compared to the ČSD series T 466.2 , they have the advantage of greater friction mass and also greater achievable traction and braking performance. Due to the two tonnes higher axle load, however, their area of application is limited to main lines.
Many of the locomotives are now used as leasing machines by private railway companies. Assignments abroad are also possible. The locomotives are preferably used in pairs. Some locomotives have so far been dismantled, some have been fundamentally modernized - from the installation of an electronic controller to a complete conversion and designation as the 741 series.
The German train has locomotives of the T series 448p in Poland in use. They were taken over in 1999 when the former PCC Rail was bought .
