The ČSD series T 669.1 (from 1988: series 771 ) is a diesel-electric locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). Derived from the series designation ЧМЭ3 (read ČME3, i.e. third type of diesel-electric ( E ) shunting locomotive ( M ) from Czechoslovak ( Č ) production) of the export locomotives on the Soviet railways, the locomotives also owe their nickname Čmelak (German: Hummel) to their driving noises.

history

The machine was created in 1968 as a further development at the SMZ in Dubnica from the ČSD series T 669.0 . In this machine, the locomotive body has been improved on the bogies. Instead of the classic suspension, a large balance beam was used on which the compressed air cylinders act. This would enable the locomotive to achieve higher starting tractive effort. A prototype was made in 1968. 1969–1972 the series production of the following 207 locomotives took place.

A few details have changed compared to the ČSD series T 669.0 , the basic concept is the same as that of the previous variant. A large number of this machine was also exported to the USSR , Poland , Albania , Iraq , Syria and India . Altogether more than 8000 machines of the locomotives T 669.0 / T 669.1 were manufactured.

Although the machines for Central Europe have a rather foreign appearance (their room layout is similar to that of GM locomotives), they have always been able to meet all requirements in their 40 years of service. Their area of application was the heavy shifting service and the transport of local goods trains.

With the introduction of the EDP numbering system in 1988, the locomotives were given the new class designation 771 with just a 3-digit serial number. By 2005, the locomotives were gradually withdrawn from service, mainly because the smaller 742 series could take over decreasing transport services . Some of the locomotives were acquired by private companies for construction train service.
