İbrahim Çallı
İbrahim Çallı (born July 13, 1882 in Çal , † May 22, 1960 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish painter . He is considered to be the pioneer of impressionism in Turkey.
Life
Çallı attended the military middle school ( Rüştiye ) in his birthplace and the high school ( Mülkiye İdadisi ) in Izmir. He studied from 1906 to 1910 at what was later to be the Institute for Fine Arts in Istanbul and with a scholarship from Fernand Cormon in Paris. His work from the 1920s had expressionist influences. In France he got to know the painting of Claude Monet , Camille Pissarro and Alfred Sisley .
Back in Istanbul (1914) he became a member of the painters' association. Until the 1940s he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul. He became a mentor of the so-called "Group D", a group of contemporary painters, and acted as an art teacher and pioneer of Impressionism in Turkey.
