İbrahim Məmmədov

İbrahim Qurban oğlu Məmmədov (also ibrahim Mämmädov ; Russian Мамедов, Ибрагим Курбан-оглы * 24. September 1928 in Baku , Azerbaijan SSR , Soviet Union ; † thirtieth August 1993 in Baku, Azerbaijan ) was a Soviet-Azerbaijani composer and music educator .

Life

İbrahim Məmmədov studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in Baku in the composition class of Boris Isaakowitsch Seidman (1908–1981). One focus of Məmmədov's work was the training of young Azerbaijani musicians. From 1961 he was a professor at the State Conservatory of Azerbaijan. Here he taught basic music theory , score reading and instrumentation . Since 1955 İbrahim Məmmədov was a member of the Society of Azerbaijani Composers. Later he was also appointed to the board of the organization. In 1990 he received the honorary title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR.

Works (selection)

Qəhrəmanlıq simfoniyası [The Heroic Symphony], Təntənəli uvertüra [Solemn Overture], Symphonic Variations for Violin and Orchestra and the Balet süitası [Ballet Suite ] are symphonic works popular in Azerbaijan. His ballet opera Tülkü və Alabaş [Fox and Trout] has been featured in the Azerbaijani State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater for 35 years . Poema-tokkata for piano and orchestra is in the repertoire of many young Azerbaijani pianists. Also Sülhün dayağı [column of peace] for soloists, choir and symphony orchestra, and cantatas Zəhmət təranələri [Busy] and Azərbaycan [Azerbaijan], Rapsodiya for Clarinet and Orchestra and other vocal and instrumental chamber music works are appreciated in Azerbaijan. Other symphonic works are Bayram uvertürası [ festival overture] from 1964, Keşiyində dayanmışıq , Marş, Romans [romance], Rəqs-kapris [dance caprice] from 1969 and a rhapsody. In addition to the Heroic Symphony from 1956, he wrote two more, the second symphony in 1975. There was also a suite for wind and string orchestra. Məmmədov also wrote songs. Among many others he composed the songs Əmək mahnısı [work song ] in 1948, Mingəçevir in 1955 and Parovoz in 1968. For piano he wrote variations and 5 preludes. In the field of chamber music he created a piano trio and a sonatina for cello and piano.

Recordings

In 1954 the symphonic variations for violin and orchestra were recorded and published on the Апрелевский Завод label. Azerbaijani violinist Azad Əliyev was the soloist. He has performed with the State Symphony Orchestra of the Azerbaijani SSR under the direction of Knyaz Hacıbəyov , known as Niyazi . In 1990 Melodija released an LP with symphonic works by Məmmədov. The festival overture, Poema-tokkata, Мир нашей планете and a suite from the opera Лиса и волкодав were recorded.
