Shishaku Ōsako Naotoshi ( Japanese 大 迫 尚 敏 ; * December 24, 1844 in Kagoshima , Satsuma , Japan ; † September 20, 1927 ) was a general in the Imperial Japanese Army .

Life

Ōsako was born in Kagoshima in the Satsuma fiefdom , today's Kagoshima Prefecture , in southern Japan. During the First Sino-Japanese War , he was given command of a brigade. In 1895 he was appointed Danshaku according to the Japanese nobility system of Kazoku . In 1900 he was given command of the 7th Division .

During the Russo-Japanese War , Ōsako was assigned to the 7th Division of the 3rd Army and took part in the siege of Port Arthur , where they suffered heavy losses. After taking Port Arthur, Ōsako led the remnants of his division to northern Manchuria to take part in the Battle of Mukden .

In 1906 he was promoted to general and made shishaku , the Japanese equivalent of a vice count. After leaving the army, he headed the Gakushūin School from 1912 to 1927, which educated the children of the Japanese nobility. Ōsako Naotoshi died on September 20, 1927.
