Şenkal Atasagun

Şenkal Atasagun (* 1942 in Kars ) was director of the Turkish news service Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı (MİT).

Atasagun graduated from Galatasaray High School in İstanbul and the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Pierre Mendès-France Grenoble II in Grenoble . After serving as a reserve officer, he joined the MİT in 1967. He held various positions within the Secret Service and Operations Bureau. Atasagun is an expert on counter-espionage . He was deputy department head for the İstanbul region and twice department head for the Ankara region and abroad in Brussels . In 1997 he worked in the international service in London . On February 11, 1998 he became director of the MİT. Atasagun retired on June 11, 2005.

Atasagun is married and speaks French and English.
