Saban Bajramović
Šaban Bajramović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Шабан Бајрамовић ; born April 16, 1936 in Niš ; † June 8, 2008 ibid) was a Yugoslav or Serbian singer who is often referred to as the "king of Roma music ".
Life
As a young soldier, Bajramović deserted from the Yugoslav People's Army because of love , which earned him a three-year prison sentence. During his stay in prison Goli he founded (the music he learned self-taught on the road) a successful prison orchestra. After serving his sentence, Bajramović recorded his first record in 1964, followed by over 20 other phonograms.
In addition to the music, Šaban Bajramović has often appeared in films, such as in The Guardian Angel (1987) by Goran Paskaljević and in Ciganska magija (1997) by Stole Popov . He was also instrumental in the soundtrack for " Black Cat, White Cat ".
He died on June 8, 2008 in the cardiological center in Niš. In 2009 a street in his hometown was named after him, against which there were protests, some of which were accompanied by riots. On August 12, 2010, on the initiative of Ivan Blagojević, director of the Nišville Jazz Festival , a monument was inaugurated in Niš on the bank of the Nišava River. It is a statue made by the sculptor Vlado Ašanin. Since no public funds were available, the musician Goran Bregović and the actor and director Ljubiša Samardžić as well as the Niš mayor Miloš Simonović, who waived a monthly salary, participated in the financing of the monument.
