AB Šilkas was the largest silk fabric manufacturing company ( combine ) in Lithuania , based in Kaunas . The company employed 3,100 people (1982).

history

In 1951 it was established as a branch in Vilijampolė of the Kauno audiniai fabric factory in Soviet Lithuania . In 1956 it became the independent company Ziberto šilko Kombatas ( Eng . 'Siebert-Silk Combine'). In 1982, 29.4 million meters of silk fabric and 0.8 million meters of other fabrics were produced. They exported to all the republics of the Soviet Union and Poland , Cuba , Bulgaria , Czechoslovakia and the People's Republic of North Korea . After the privatization, Akcinė bendrovė "Šilkas" company belonged to the Lithuanian EBSW group . In 2002 it went bankrupt. It was disbanded on January 26, 2004.
