The joint-stock company Kauno audiniai (Eng. "Kaunas fabrics") was a fabric manufacturer in Lithuania based in Kaunas . The textile company was listed on the former Vilnius Stock Exchange (NVPB).

history

In 1930 the Latvian entrepreneur Hirsch founded AB "Kauno audiniai" after the reconstruction of Richard Tillmanns' metalworking factory. In 1939 they produced 0.9 million meters of fabric. During the occupation period in the Third Reich , the company belonged to the Ostland - fiber company (subsidiary of the east fiber company ). In 1945 the factory was re-established. From 1951 to 1956 there was a branch in Vilijampolė . In 1951 the branch became a silk factory ( P. Ziberto šilko Kombatas ) with 3,100 employees (1982). In 1977 “Kauno audiniai” produced 7.1 million meters (including 6 million meters of clothing) fabric worth 22.9 million rubles .

The Russian crisis stopped the opening of the new offices in St. Petersburg , Kiev and Kaliningrad . The company lost the medium-sized customer in Russia , which led to a reduction of 10% of total sales and in 1998 to a loss of almost 2 million litas. Settlement in Russia became complicated and exports stopped. Due to the high level of tissue overproduction in Europe, trade with the East began to be intensified. Together with the larger Finnish and Italian textile companies, the fabrics were exported to the Ukraine and Russia to the value of 0.5 million litas per month . When the Brazilian crisis hit the American textile market, sales in the American market fell by almost a third in 1999 (1998 exports to the USA were 1.6 million litas).

After that, "Kauno audiniai" concentrated on the European market. 80% of the fabrics were exported to Europe : Western Europe 80%, Baltic States 3%, Lithuania 5%, Russia and Ukraine 5%, America 7%. The company continued to cooperate with 40 European trading companies. The only way to expand the sales network was to set up commercial agencies. It was planned to open five commercial agencies in Italy , France and Scandinavia . More expensive fabrics should be manufactured and production sold under its own brand. In 1998, 20% of the employees were laid off. In 1999 450 people were employed. In 2003 there were only 100 employees. In 2003 AB “Kauno audiniai” became insolvent. On May 13, 2005 the company was dissolved. Instead of the factory, the commercial center " UAB Akropolis " Kaunas was built.

In 2003 there were 2,200 shareholders. The company UAB "Straujos distribucija" held 18.22% shares, which it bought from "Baltic Investment Fund Management Ltd." for Lt 50,000 . bought. The share capital of "Kauno audiniai" was litas 24.2 million (2003).
