Imola 500 km race in 1972
The 500 km race of Imola 1972 , also 500 km Imola , took place on May 17th of September this year at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari . The race was the twelfth round of the Italian Sports Car Championship in 1972.
The race
The Imola 500 km race was part of the 1972 Italian Sports Car Championship. This championship was held for the first time in 1937 and ended after a few interruptions in 1975. In Imola, in addition to two works cars from Alfa Romeo , the Scuderia Ferrari also competed with two vehicles. After 40 laps, Ferrari celebrated a double victory. Arturo Merzario won ahead of Jacky Ickx ; both drove a Ferrari 312PB .
