Žygimantas Pavilionis (born July 22, 1971 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian diplomat and conservative politician .

Life

After graduating from secondary school, Žygimantas Pavilionis completed a bachelor's degree at the Political Science Institute in 1994 and a master's degree at the Philosophy Faculty of Vilniaus universitetas in 1995 . From 1993 to 2016 he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania . From 2002 to 2006 Pavilionis was head of the ministry's European department. In 2010 he was appointed Lithuanian ambassador to the USA and Mexico by Dalia Grybauskaitė until 2015. From 2009 to 2012 he wrote a dissertation on the metapolitics of the Holy See and European politics in Lithuania at he Vilniaus universitetas . In 2013 he received his PhD in political science . Pavilionis has been teaching at Lietuvos karo akademija since September 2015 . Pavilionis was at times under discussion as a possible candidate for the 2019 presidential election in Lithuania . However, he did not run.

From 1990 to 2009 he was a member of Lietuvos krikščionių Demokratieų partija (LKDP). Pavilionis has been a member of the TS-LKD since 2009 . He is also a member of Lietuvos šaulių sąjunga .

He wears the black taekwondo belt of the second dan.

His father was the philosopher Rolandas Pavilionis (1944-2006). His mother is Marija Aušrinė Pavilionienė (* 1944), professor and politician. His brother Šarūnas Šaltis is a lawyer and entrepreneur.

Žygimantas Pavilionis is married. With his wife Lina he has four sons (Augustas, Dominykas, Simonas and Vincentas).
