Əzim Əzimzadə ( Azerbaijani Əzim Aslan oğlu Əzimzadə ; German Äzim Äzimzadä ; * May 7, 1880 in Novxanı , Baku Governorate , Russian Empire ; † June 15, 1943 in Baku , Soviet Union ) was an Azerbaijani artist with the title of, People of the Azerbaijani SSR was awarded by the Soviet Union.

Life

Əzimzadə was born in 1880 in the Caspian Sea village of Novxanı. His father Aslan started out as a farmer and later became a worker in the oil industry, which was then booming. Əzimzadə received no artistic training and taught himself to paint by himself. Meanwhile, his father sent to a school attached to a mullachane, a mosque. Here he learned Arabic and studied the Koran .

From 1906 he published pictures in magazines that deal with social and political issues. In the 1920s he became the chief artist of the Azerbaijani satirical magazine Molla Nasreddin .
