Sayyid ʿImād ad-Dīn Nasīmī ( Persian سید عماد الدین نسیمی; * around 1369 ; † 1417 / 18 in Aleppo , skinned was) based on current knowledge of the earliest Azerbaijani poet and philosopher . Since Azerbaijani literature was still part of the old Ottoman literature at the time of Nasīmī , Babinger (1934) assigned Nasīmī to Ottoman, Doerfer (1988), however, due to the poet's non-Anatolian origins, to Azerbaijani.

Life

Little is known about Nasīmī's life and his place of birth is unclear (perhaps near Baghdad or in Şamaxı ). But he was of Azeri origin, although the title Sayyid implies Arabic roots. Around 1401 he turned to Hurufism in Tabriz under the direction of Fazlallāh Astarābādī , whose teachings he spread actively and at the risk of his life. According to a fatwa by the fanatical Mufti of Aleppo, Nasīmī was skinned alive there in 1417/18.

From Nasīmī there are two Dīwāne in Persian and Turkish. Some verses in Arabic are also attributed to him. The Turkish divan contains 250–300 ghasels and around 150 quatrains. His poems were well known early on , especially through the mediation of wandering calendar dervishes .

One of the famous Ghazele , which is emphasized by the richness of its language among the Turkic peoples , is the Ghazel Sighmazam ( Azerbaijani Sığmazam).

A small section from the Ghazel Sighmazam;

Sığmazam
Məndə sığar iki cahan, mən bu cahâna sığmazam
Gövhər-i lâ-məkân mənəm, kövn-ü məkâna sığmazam.
"Inappropriate"
I easily embrace both worlds, this world does not embrace me.
Am the source of the unknown, I don't find being and being.

Most of his ghazels and poems are sung in musical form.
