ʻUtungake (also: Otungake , Utugake ) is an island in the Tongan archipelago of Vavaʻu .

geography

ʻUtungake is an elongated, spiral-shaped island in the Vavaʻu archipelago. It is located on the southern edge of the Ava Pulepulekai Channel and connects almost directly to the main island in the center of the archipelago. There is a bridge to Pangaimotu in the north . The island encloses Vauleleva Bay from north to south-west , an old Blue Hole , which is bordered again from the south by a headland of Pangaimotu. The overall very narrow island becomes wider to the south and with Mala there is a transition to Kapa in the south. The two settlements ' Utungake and Nga'unoho (Talihau) are located on the island .

In the north of the island in the Ava Pulepulekai Channel are the tiny islets Lotuma , Nuapuli and Kolotahi .

climate

The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Vavaʻu group, ʻUtungake is occasionally hit by cyclones .
