Rub al-hizb
Rub al-hizb ( Arabic ربع الحزب, DMG Rubʿ al-ḥizb ; ۞) is a calligraphic element used in the Koran to indicate the beginning of a quarter ( rubʿ ) of a ḥizb (one sixtieth of the text of the Koran or half a juzʾ ).
Rub al-hizb is used as a symbol for Islam in some coats of arms and flags:
- Coat of arms of Turkmenistan
- Coat of arms of Uzbekistan
- Azat Party flag
- The unofficial flag of Kazakhstan during the 1990s
- The symbol of the Boy Scouts of Kazakhstan
- in a modified form in the flag of Azerbaijan
The Rub al-hizb is included in the Unicode character set standard at position 06DE.
Another glyph in the Koran that signals the subdivision of the Koran text is the circular symbol , which indicates the end of an Āya .
