background

The song 'Deed I Do', written in E major in the form AA'BA ' as a slow foxtrot , but now mostly played at a very fast tempo, was introduced by the vaudeville artist SL Stambaugh and, in the United States, mainly through the recordings of Ruth Etting and Ben Bernie popular.

“The chorus of the lyrics asks the question Do I Want You? , which is answered by the headline 'Deed I Do , with a minimum of notes and sluggish harmonies. The main characteristic of the song is the predominant rhythmic motif of dotted quarter notes followed by an eighth note connected to a full note. The open harmony enables a new beginning for imaginative improvisation. "
