The Argentine Austral (currency symbol: ₳, an A with a slash ; code: ARA ) was the currency of Argentina from June 15, 1985 to the end of 1991 . It was divided into 100 centavos. The currency replaced the previous Peso Argentino in a ratio of 1: 1000.

In 1985, coins of ½, 1, 5, 10 and 50 centavos were minted. They showed various animals and the coat of arms of Argentina on the back. In 1989 coins of 1, 5 and 10 Austral were issued, depicting famous houses from Argentine history. Later, due to the inflation, coins of 100, 500 and 1000 Austral were minted, they all showed the coat of arms of Argentina.

In 1985, provisional peso-argentino notes with the value in Austral were used as banknotes. Later, own notes were printed with a value of 1 to 500,000 Austral.

On January 1, 1992, the new Argentine peso replaced the Austral in the ratio of 10,000 Austral = 1 Peso.
