Ƒ
The letter Ƒ (lower case ƒ ) is a letter of the Latin writing system . The capital letter consists of an F with a hook, while the lower case letter is an italic F with a hook.
It thus resembles the (ancient) ancient Greek ϝ (“wau”, descriptive term “ digamma ” for “double gamma”), which is also shown with a tick depending on the character set used.

The letter is used in Ewe for the IPA sound ɸ .
The lower case letter is the currency symbol for the florin and the guilder .
In the photographic context, the small letter is also used for the aperture (ƒ / 2.8 as an alternative to 1: 2.8).
Presentation on the computer
With LaTeX the Ƒ can be represented with the help of the fc fonts . The corresponding commands are \m Ffor the large and \m ffor the small Ƒ.
Unicode contains the "Ƒ" at code point U + 0191 and the "ƒ" at U + 0192. Windows-1252 contains the lowercase letter at code point 0x83.
Trivia
The small ƒ is the only character that appears in both code page 850 and Windows-1252, but not in ISO 8859-1 .
