い in hiragana orイ in katakana ( romanized i ) is one of the Japanese kana that represents a mora .い is based on the sōsho style of the kanji 以 .イ is derived from the radical of the kanji伊 . In modern Japanese alphabetical sorting , it comes in second place, betweenあ andう . It is also the first letter in the Iroha before theろ . Both represent [i] .
