-oil
The ending -ol is mainly used in organic chemistry to form names of organic compounds that contain the hydroxyl group (-OH). They are mainly alcohols or phenols , e.g. B. methanol , ethanol , propanol and phenol . The suffix was from the word alcoh ol removed.
The ending also occurs in common names of aromatic compounds, such as benzene , toluene , xylene , anisole or pyrrole , which are not alcohols or phenols.
