Lists on the subject |
The .280 Remington , also known as the 7mm Remington Express, was introduced in 1957 for the Remington Model 740, 760, 721 and 725 rifles . It is based on the .30-06 Springfield , in which the case neck has been tapered and slightly lengthened so that a 7 mm (0.284 inch) bullet fits.
Conceived as a competitor to the .270 Winchester , the .280 Remington only differs from the .270 Winchester in terms of its slightly weaker load. However, the .280 could not really prevail against the .30-06 and .270, which was particularly reflected in the sales figures. In 1979, Remington decided to increase sales of the .280 Remington by renaming it to 7mm Remington Express. However, this did not lead to an increase in sales, it only caused the shooters in the USA to be confused by the new name. So in 1981 Remington was forced to withdraw the new name.
