.museum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.museum is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) that was introduced on October 20, 2001 . It goes back to a resolution of ICANN in 2000 and is primarily aimed at museums . It is organizationally and technically managed by the non-profit association Museum Domain Management , based in Stockholm, Sweden .

In comparison to other top-level domains .museum is insignificant. Experts assume that in November 2003 an estimated only 3,000 addresses were registered under the top-level domain. The award criteria for .museum were last relaxed in 2005: Since then, domains on the second level ( example.museum ) have been possible, and internationalized domain names are also supported.
