The one hundred US dollar banknote ($ 100) is a denomination of the currency of the United States of America, featuring the statesman, inventor, diplomat, and founding father of the United States, Benjamin Franklin , on the obverse . There is a picture of Independence Hall on the back . The $ 100 bill is the largest denomination of the U.S. dollar currently in circulation since the $ 500, $ 1,000, $ 5,000, and $ 10,000 bills were withdrawn on July 13, 1969 . The " Bureau of Engraving and Printing " gives the approximate life of a $ 100 banknote in normal circulation as 90 months (7.5 years).

background

In colloquial language, the banknotes are often referred to as "Benjamin" (alluding to the portrait of Benjamin Franklin shown on the front) and also as "C-Notes" (because of the Roman number for 100). The $ 100 note, along with the $ 10 note showing Alexander Hamilton , is the second of the denominations currently in circulation that do not show the President of the United States of America . It also shows Independence Hall , the only building that is not in Washington, DC . The clock at Independence Hall reads approximately 4:10 a.m. according to the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing , while older sheet music and the 2013 series 2009A show 10:30 a.m.

One hundred $ 100 bills ($ 10,000) at a time are supplied by the Federal Reserve Bank with a mustard-colored ribbon ( bill sleeve ).

The Series 2009 $ 100 bill design was unveiled on April 21, 2010 and unveiled to the public on October 8, 2013. The new banknote costs 12.6 cents to produce and has a blue ribbon ( security thread ) woven vertically in the middle of the bill that alternately shows “100” and the “ Liberty Bell ” when the bill is tilted.

According to former Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernanke , more than two-thirds of all $ 100 bills are overseas.
